Brick from Monson Academy Alumni Hall |
Description |
Brick salvaged from the demolition of Monson Academy Alumni Hall and placed inside presentation box. The following explanation was included with this brick. Monson Academy was founded in 1804 and merged with Wilbrahm Academy in 1971,thus becoming Wilbraham & Monson Academy, Wilbraham, Massachusetts. The brick on display here is an ivory-colored Roman that came from the facade of Alumni Hall, Monson Academy. Alumni Hall, the academy's principal building, was dedicated in 1954 during the Sesquicentennial Celebration and during the tenure of Headmaster, Dr. George E. Rogers. Alumni Hall was razed in 2001. The display box is made of walnut with box joints; the lid is flaming birch. Timothy Carlson of Granby, Connecticut crafted the box. The school motto, "Prest Pour Mon Pais", is Old French which translates, "Ready For My Country". This brick and display box was presented to Head of School, Richard C. Malley, Wilbraham & Monson Academy, on May 5, 2001, for his custody, and to evoke the memory of those extraordinary educators at Monson Academy who believed that building boys was better than mending men. Plaque inside box reads - Monson Academy Monson, Massachusetts 1804-1971 "Prest Pour Mon Pais" |
