recent note which was glued on, but removed at this time Norcross Hotel - Green's Hotel - Cushman Hotel - Century Block These were all names for this building, the earliest part of which was built in 1796 by Wm. Norcross. His son, Amos, ran it for 45 years as a stage stop and local tavern and meeting place for Thomas Lodge of Masons. In 1872 Daniel Green purchased the hotel and completely remodeled it, adding an extra mansard roof story and a large three-story ell. Sometime in the 1920's or 30's it was converted into a "tenement" house and was torn down in 1958. The "Dunkin Doughnuts" building now stands on the site of this stately hotel. |
